Metals - TITANIUM
Titanium (Ti.)
Titanium is very light in weight, great strength, high melting point, and outstanding resistance to corrosion.
Titanium is the fourth most abundant metallic element in the earths crust. It occurs chiefly as an oxide ore.
An oxide film is formed on the metal surface by heat or an electrochemical treatment called anodic oxidation. When light strikes the semi-transparent film, some of its wavelengths are thrown "out of sequence."
This produces the look of colors to the eye, but it is purely an optical effect. No dyes or pigments are involved. Colors seen are determined by the films thickness.
